Systems and Freedom:
Type as Grid 5 Week Workshop led by

The workshop uses modular typography as a springboard to explore letterforms – its form-making/giving, legibility, readability and its material base.

I was assigned a single letter chosen from the Latin alphabet—W, and had to study its formal structures, to understand what makes this letter recognisable. Using that understanding, I then create my own interpretation of that letter using analogue methods and a modular grid, before digitising and continuing to develop that single letter into three weights: light, regular, and bold.

The final outcome of the workshop was an A1 poster that showcases the quality of the letter and its various lineweights.
